Research
Undergraduate and graduate students collaborate with faculty on internationally recognized research in the department’s specialty areas. Washington, D.C., is a lively research ground for studying local social problems. Many students also attend professional conferences such as the Society for the Study of Social Problems Annual Meeting, often submitting papers and presenting their work.
Our faculty are prolific researchers in topics as varied as immigration, housing discrimination, collective memory and the prison system. They have worked on housing equity with the National Fair Housing Alliance, collected data for the National Women’s Law Center and collaborated on research and events with the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum.
