About
The GW Department of Sociology brings together more than 600 students across its undergraduate and graduate programs. Sociology is an inherently interdisciplinary field, and students will find classes and professors with connections to public policy, the humanities, international affairs and more. Our students are engaged with the community and active in their fields.
The department fosters a lively intellectual climate among faculty and students, and we host a variety of guest speakers and events throughout the year. Our esteemed faculty have interviewed with national news outlets and testified for the local D.C. government on issues ranging from criminal justice to fair housing. They have won teaching awards from the GW Office of the Provost and the American Society of Criminology, pursued Fulbrights in Chile, Romania, and Israel and received book awards from the Textbook and Academic Authors Association.
