"Fair and Balanced or Fraught with Bias? An Analysis of Digital Media Coverage of Female Candidates in the 2016 Senate Race"

Ana Deros

I have always been interested in government and politics, which is what originally drew me to study at GW. However, after taking an Introduction to Sociology class during my sophomore year, I decided that I wanted to study Sociology in addition to Political Science. Sociology is largely about figuring out why people do the things they do and how that knowledge can be used to solve social problems. Thus, it seemed to me as if the two areas of study would fit well together. I have greatly enjoyed my time studying sociology at GW and have particularly enjoyed taking classes that examine how different groups of people interact, such as Race and Minority Relations with Professor Wenger and Sociology of Sex and Gender with Professor Deitch. My interests in the fields of Sociology and Political Science have worked well together during a variety of internships I have participated in during my 4 years at GW, such as at the ACLU of Maryland and at EMILY’s List. I look forward to seeing how my studies at GW will help me in my career after college, as well.
