Professor Eglitis's research focuses on the social dimensions of postcommunist transformations in Eastern Europe. She is especially interested in the ways in which transformation has affected women in the region and the ways in which women have responded to the dramatic changes of the last decade. She is also interested in poverty and class inequality in both the newly-capitalist states of Eastern Europe and modern capitalist states like those in the West. In the spring semester of 2015, Professor Eglitis was a fellow at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. She continues to actively research, write, and speak about her work on Holocaust memory in the Baltic countries and on women's experiences of the Holocaust and World War II in the East and Central European region.

Unwritten Histories: World War II, Women & the Silences of the Past – This book manuscript brings together a new sociological theorization of collective memory with the development of agent-centered microhistories of groups of women long consigned to the silences of history. The book highlights case studies of Jewish and Latvian women fighting at the Eastern front in World War II, women victims of sexual violence in Nazi ghettos and camps in Central and East Europe, and widowed mothers in post-war Displaced Persons camps. This work is based on research conducted while Professor Eglitis was a research fellow at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
